Churn Dash Quilts

I love scrap quilts! Although I love all the collections of fabrics that are now put together to make a quilter's life easier, I love to just throw a bunch of fabrics together that at first glance might look like they don't belong together.

This one started with a pretty collection by Moda Fabrics called Larskpur and I just added to those fabrics. I used a scrappy churn dash pattern and surrounded each block with 2 1/2 inch sashing strips. For the center of some of the blocks I used the text print from a collection by Riley Blake fabrics called "Ardently Austen".

The fabric has actual text from Jane Austen's beloved novels and was the perfect addition to my quilt! To make the quilt the size I needed (an oversized king measuring 110X115) I added several scrappy borders around the edges, and I did a basic all over random meandering quilting design. I free motion quilted this on my home sewing machine, it was a big job but I am really happy with the results.
